I created both ideas using the Clarendon typeface. The first design was based on the first thing that came to my head when thinking of the word 'brash'. I thought the word sounded harsh and uptight so with that in mind, I made it so it looked harsh (sharp edges) and stiff.
The second design was just simply made by making the type bolder than its original state as one of the synonyms for the word brash, is bold.
I decided not to carry on with both of these ideas as I don't think they look very interesting at all, I think they look too simplistic and doesn't really add up to the adjective.
I then decided to work with a sans serif font as I thought Berthold looked bolder and is a more consistent typeface to edit a manipulate.
The A, B and E were suppose to be a typeface family but as I was trying to create them, I found it difficult to make something similar on some letters such a C and D. I liked the A on this because it slightly looks more than a symbol that a sign so that would mean it would look like an brash, overconfident letter.
I thought the B didn't look as bold as the other two letters because through the editing, I had to cut out some ares to give it a sharp point so it made the type look thin. I think the B also looked like an R so I decided it wasn't a good idea to go ahead with it as the letter R may have looked similar to this.
I think the E looked randomly made, the extended bottom line of the E doesn't look appealing or interesting but it looks quite annoying.
I created this design in the idea of making the letters look forward as this is a synonym to the word brash. I only changed the typeface slightly by rotating it clockwise. I liked this type, especially the A, B and G. I think they look quirky and fun which is what may be associated with confidence. However, there were some letters I couldn't change because I didn't know how to make it look similar or consistent to the other ones I had changed. I decided not to go on with this type because there were too many letters that I wouldn't know how to change because it weren't possible to make it look the same.
The second digital design I made was inspired by the first idea of the word brash also meaning forward. I developed this idea to make it to look physically - almost like its falling. This type looked more consistent and put together than the previous one because I could change all the letters to make them look like they are falling to the side. I made the typefaces look like they were falling in different ways so that some parts of the letters are falling and some, the whole letter is falling. This sums up the word brash as it is meant to be overconfident, cocky and rude. I liked this as the final design but it looked too consistent and therefore slightly boring.
This final typeface design is made by incorporating my first and second digital typeface designs. I think it looks more interesting now its got different movements within it. I added the main letters I liked from the first typeface but the final design mainly consists of the letters from the second typeface design.
The typeface looks bold, confusing, inconsistent, rude, ignorant and intrusive because of subtle differences in each letter.
This is the design specimen I had created. I used contrasting colours to further make the design look harsh and bold. I specifically used colours that do not work together and I thought that the yellow and purple had more of an effect than the blue and orange.
