Kerndown

As a group, we had to spell out an existing company or brand with 6 letters provided and we had to keep the same name in different situations. Three were vowels and the other three were continental letters. We were given two capital letters (M and R) and 4 lower case letters (i, a and n). We were unable to to figure out a company with the letters we were given so we played around with the letters and turned the 'M' into a 'W' and the 'a' into an 'e' somehow. We came up with 'Wire' which is a club in Leeds which is the top typography we made on the image above.

The second type design we created was to represent a cafe. We thought the type looked like a hipster cafe because the we played around with the letters and moved parts of letters into different places such as the . on the 'i', we put at the end of the type to make it look more appealing and cool to the audience.

The last one was for a teenage clothes shop. I think the type looks quirky and funky which will attract younger audiences because the letters are not aligned, they look scattered so it makes it look fun.

This activity helped me think about different ways how kerning and positioning affects the way a logo is presented and how it can attract different types of audiences.
