Studio Brief 01 - A-Z: Type in Context Chinatown Research

The chosen location is Manchester Chinatown as it is a specific area that is very cultured by different Asian influences. Chinatown has many various Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Thai restaurants, supermarkets, cafes and clubs.

Manchester's Chinatown is located in the city centre and consists of Mosley Street, New York Street, Portland Street, Princess Street and Oxford Street. Chinatown appeared in the early 20th century as an alternative place to Liverpool. The Chinatown in Manchester has a Ming Dynasty Imperial Arch dedicated to the whole of Chinatown which was created in 1987. Chinese New Year is celebrated throughout Chinatown every year which allows others to open their own stalls and sell typical Chinese New Year merchandise such as paper dragons and drums.
